I’m currently reading this series with one of my Goodreads groups, one book a month. So, I thought I’d share my reviews here as we complete them. This series has a continuing story arc and should be read in order.

Four years ago, Grace Fallon and Alex Rycroft’s relationship was ripped apart following a devastating attack on her in Mombasa, Kenya. The normally stoic NSA division head and leader of the task force experiences a major distraction when he sees Grace in Islamabad. He’s not moved on and she’s still angered and hurt by his abandonment. She’s also there leading a team of UN chemical weapons inspectors who are trying to iron out a deal involving the Syrian government. It’s highly sensitive enough but now, because of Alex, she’s become the focus of one of the most dangerous terrorists in the world.

This was the final showdown for the task force and it was pretty intense and exciting. Yes, there’s a novella that follows but it is clearly an afterthought as this book has a finality to it that works. It was fascinating to see Alex so unsettled while at the same time focused on dealing with Malik’s escape (we knew that was inevitable). His developing relationship with Grace did not take a secondary place to the task force operations as the author adeptly managed to integrate both extremely well and culminating with an explosive climax. And, the epilogue is one of the best as most loose ends were neatly tied.

I’ve enjoyed this series and especially liked the suspense aspect. The writing was nimble, expertly researched and downright effective in making me nervously turn the pages. I got invested in these characters and look forward to one more visit through the novella.

  1. I also really enjoy this author. I just finished Shattered Vows last night in her new series. I have read the first few in this one but need to go back and finish. Great review, as always. Anne – Books of My Heart
