The Mitchell’s Inn is an old fashioned lodge located in the New York Catskills. Guests arrive for a relaxing weekend, that is until the storm that descended upon their arrival intensifies and soon takes out the power. They hunker down, making the best of it as the host and owner is determined to make his guests comfortable despite the circumstances. However, when one of the guests is found dead the next morning, the mood changes. After determining the guest’s death may not be an accident and then another person turns up dead, that sparks something more than a mood change.

It was impossible not to recall Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None as I read this story. The setting and set up are similar but it doesn’t take long for this one to go its own way. I loved how each character’s point of view was presented throughout, giving me some sense of who they were and their personal motivations. I found a rather unique hole that allowed me to correctly figure out the culprit before the reveal but, believe me, this one isn’t easy. I found myself hanging onto every word to gain some kind of footing and, in the end, those words mattered.

The narrator, Hillary Huber, is such a great choice for this book. She’s just an excellent storyteller and provides distinction to the characters that fit their personalities. She was SO good! I’m very happy I opted for the audio version as she delivered the performance I expected and made a tough puzzler even more intriguing. I LOVED the ending, one that had me pondering for long after. Don’t take that to mean it wasn’t satisfying because it was. I’m definitely looking to read more by this author. This was my first and I want more.

  1. I HAD to read the Agatha Christie as soon as I finished this one. It was fun comparing the two and so many differences because of the times. I enjoyed this one too. Great review ❤

  2. Excellent review. I love Hillary Huber, just listened to her yesterday in Freefall by Jessica Barry. Then There Was None was one of my first audiobooks back in MN when I got them on CD from the library. Anne – Books of My Heart
