Body Double by Tess Gerritsen

Body Double

This is another series I’m reading with a group on Goodreads. We’re a bit further along but I’m posting the earlier reviews. This book series was developed into the television series Rizzoli & Isles that aired on TNT starring Angie Harmon & Sasha Alexander. The books are much grittier than the television show, however.

Maura Isles returns home from a business trip abroad to find a very strange reception. There are emergency vehicles clogging her street with neighbors and friends within the Boston Police Department looking at her as if they’d seen a ghost. That’s because the dead woman in the car in front of her house is her doppelgänger. But, she soon learns she’s more than a random lookalike…she’s the twin sister she never knew she had!

Obviously, this book grabs you from the very beginning and it never let me go. Maura’s pursuit of her past leads to some startling and stunning revelations, investigated by an eight-months pregnant Jane Rizzoli who didn’t let that slow her down one bit. Maura’s findings subject her to danger from unknown sources, which only heightens the anxiety. There are also two other situations in play that seem to be disconnected from Maura’s circumstances but deep down I knew they would eventually intersect. They both were harrowing, playing to my worst fears.

This is my most favorite in the series to date and I’ve enjoyed all of them. The narrator was just excellent and I hope she continues. I’m so enjoying these stories, even though they are nerve wracking at times…just the way I like it.

  1. So glad you are loving this series! It really is one of my favorites, and I wish a new one would come out soon! I can’t think of a book by Gerritsen that I don’t like; she’s a favorite author for me. Wonderful review, Jonetta!

      1. I did not know that-thank you! I’ll add it to my TBR now and be on the prowl for an ARC. She has several standalones and they are excellent; there are a few that I enjoy as much if not more than some of the books in the Rizzoli and Isles series, so I’m sure it will be fantastic!
