After reading Christopher @ Plucked from the Stacks’s post this morning, where he mentioned that his comments on other blog sites were inexplicably going to the spam folder, I immediately checked out mine. Unfortunately, I found several of my friends and followers languishing there.
My apologies if you wondered why I didn’t reply or reflect your comments on my site. I could only look back the previous eight days.
I’ve also noticed that my comments aren’t showing up on some blogs that I follow. I fear the same may be happening to me.
Just an FYI to periodically check your comments spam folder. The system isn’t perfect.

I must thank you for this, Jonetta, because until I read it, I didn’t even realize that I had a spam folder for junk comments. I searched a bit, found it, and did find a legitimate reader comment in the pile. Very helpful!

I try to check periodically as I have found some from followers as well. Always a good reminder.

I’ve had issues with my comments going into spam before too. I try to check my spam folder, but it has been a while. I should check it again. Thanks for the reminder.

So, so frustrating, Jonetta. I just assumed no one was interested in my replies for a hot minute! If you think your comments are being targeted and you haven’t already, use the contact form on Akismet’s site and explain what’s going on. They ended up fixing it for me within a day.

Interesting. I checked the 37 pages of comments and I only found 4 of anyone I knew and it was you. The others were all huge ramblings often in a foreign language.

Oh, you too, Jonetta? It’s been happening to me, seemingly random followers have turned up in the spam, and I only noticed a couple of weeks ago as I wondered what had happened to a couple of people. I just assumed Gmail was up to its usual being an ass. It’s really annoying. I now check daily but we shouldn’t have too.

It’s a WordPress thing in conjunction (I think) with Gmail. I reported it to Askimet and they fixed it.

Funny how it was just odd and random comments though. Anyway, I haven’t noticed anything since, but then, I haven’t been posting much as we’re still on holidays! 😉

That has happened to me a few times so now I try to make a point to regularly check my spam folder. I felt so bad for missing the comments that had gone into that folder.

This is a great reminder. I find comments from approved commenters not just in my spam folder, but also in my unapproved folder sometimes. It’s rather frustrating. Need to remember to look more regularly. Thanks!

You’re welcome! I keep up with my pending comments as I get notifications for those. These authentic commenters showing up as spam really took me by surprise.

I think I get too many emails and the notifications sometimes get lost in the shuffle.
