Jessica Yardley is a US attorney in Las Vegas and the mother of 15-year old daughter, Tara. FBI Agent Cason Baldwin approaches her for help with two brutal murder cases. Once she sees pictures of the murder scenes, she understands why he’s singled her out. They look identical to others she’s seen before that were committed by the serial killer called the Dark Casanova…and who is her ex-husband Eddie Cal.
I admit that the premise of this story lured me in immediately, hoping it would payoff and it did. Yardley is a smart and talented prosecutor who is also dealing with a difficult teenager at home while juggling a demanding career. Having to revisit her ex’s crimes and meet with him in prison for the first time since he was captured almost sixteen years ago resurrects some painful memories. It isn’t clear if Eddie knows anything about the copycat killer but he’s definitely leveraging the situation for his own agenda.
This turned out to be a more twisted story than even I’d imagined. It also features a fascinating courtroom drama, which was an added treat for me as I love them when they’re done well and it is here. Even though my suspicions about the identity of the copycat killer arose early and were on point, I wasn’t able to predict all of the twists and turns that followed, especially that ending. I’m so glad I’ve already gotten the next book in the series because I most definitely want more. Methos is a new-to-me author and his experience as a former prosecutor shines through, moving the story at a breath neck pace with lots of tension and excitement. I’ll be checking out his earlier books. I also recommend the audio version as the narrator, Brittany Pressley, was great as Jessica Yardley and handled all the rest of the characters, mostly male, extremely well. Her delivery of the story matched the pace, handling transitions and dramatic moments adeptly. She made this a great listening experience.

The premise grabbed me and your review definitely cemented that it is going on my TBR. Brittany Pressley is a narrator I have recently come across and enjoyed, so that makes this even more enticing.
