D.C. the heart of the story…
This case has political intrigue mixed with plain old thuggery that takes some interesting paths. It was suspenseful and masterfully woven into the personal lives of not only Sam and Nick but the recurring supporting characters. There’s a particularly tough situation involving another detective in Sam’s squad that will test your resolve. It’s not a tough case to figure out but it wasn’t all that easy to unravel, either. I also like Sam and Nick’s relationship. She’s learning how to be part of a couple and Nick’s holding her feet to the fire. Just when you think he’s too good to be true he goes and does something completely human.
the narration…
Eva Kaminksy’s performance was wonderful. I particularly enjoyed how she conveyed tension without being overly dramatic about it. Her voice really worked for me and her male characterizations were very well done.
the bottom line…
This was strong on mystery and suspense, couched neatly in a really great romance. The development of the secondary characters was also outstanding and I enjoyed their stories as much as Sam and Nick’s. I had a hard time putting it down and love Kaminsky’s performance.
