Fatal Identity by Marie Force #MarieForce #EvaKaminsky

the setup…
Sam Holland is waiting to learn her fate following her assault of fellow detective Ramsey who made fun of her ordeal with Stahl. She faces suspension and possible loss of command, in addition to legal charges. In the middle of all this, Sam’s approached by Josh Hamilton for help in investigating his questionable parentage. He thinks he was stolen as an infant. What makes this explosive? His father is the FBI director.

the heart of the story…
It was interesting to see Sam blend home and work as she investigates Josh’s case from the sidelines. There’s a surreal sense abound when she has to deal with issues at home in her role as a wife and mother, too. It felt like a life test for her, which she seemed to pass with exceptional ease. Josh’s situation quickly ramps up to a dangerous level and Sam threads that needle between her need to explore things on her own versus when to escalate the situation to her command.

the narration…
I listened to the story this time and it was just a better reading experience with Eva Kaminsky’s great storytelling skills.

the bottom line…
I really liked this story as we see Sam seeming to have learned from her past “lone wolf” experiences and embracing all aspects of her life, including wife, mother and Second Lady. The case has shocking results and the procedural aspect was intriguing. There are secondary storylines, too, that were heart wrenching and poignant. This was a good one and I cannot wait for the next book.
