the setup…
Harriet York owns The Crow’s Nest, an antique shop she inherited from her Aunt Matilda. It’s Christmastime and she’s cheerily immersed in the season, even though she’s estranged from her family. Then one evening she’s visited in her home by Nolan Callahan, a cynical Ghost of Christmas Past who’s there to transport her to scenes of her life. But Harriet is the epitome of a people pleaser, no way the proverbial Scrooge. But the tables seem to be turned on Nolan when they get started, the scenes of the past including some curious things that inexplicably appear to bind them.
the heart of the story…
Even I was initially confused with this modern day version of Scrooge when nothing goes according to that story. Both Nolan and Harriet were mystified but got closer each time they transported to a different time. These two were imperfectly suited…making them a great match. I couldn’t wait to see what was to come next.
the narration…
Karissa Vacker had just the right voice for Harriet and Will Watt was wickedly wonderful as Nolan. Talk about a heavenly match! Their storytelling put me right into the scenes.
the bottom line…
I love how this traditional Christmas story was turned on its head in every way. Harriet and Nolan were wonderfully crafted and their attraction sizzled (it gets steamy like no Scrooge story I’ve ever seen or read). Loved the romance, the characterizations and the twist on one of my favorites. The unpredictability and that surprising end kept me enthralled. Bring on the next!
