the setup…
Dana was abducted from Earth by an alien race over two years ago and has since been the private pet of one of the scientists on a space station. She awakens one day and finds the ship abandoned, except for the reason they fled…the genetically engineered vampire they created and can no longer control. She gives him the name Vlad (original, right?) and decides the enemy of my enemy has got to be my friend. Let’s hope Vlad thinks so, too.

the heart of the story…
Vlad doesn’t look like the romantic vampires depicted in most stories. He’s an amalgamation of many species so his appearance is more akin to what we think of as a monster. But Dana doesn’t seem him that way and as the two plot how to escape from the station, she’s inexplicably drawn to this creature.

the narration…
Beth Roeg captured Dana’s wry humor and Ryan West was deliciously campy as Vlad the vampire. I loved their voices for the characters and the storytelling was great.

the bottom line…
I wasn’t looking forward to this one and was quite happy at how much I enjoyed the story. Dana is clever and Vlad a sponge as he learned from (and romanced) her. This is a steamy little gem that is indeed scary sexy.
