The Cross by Steve Cavanagh @sscav @stevecavanagh.bsky.social #AdamSims @simon.audio @simonaudio.bsky.social #EddieFlynn #TheCross

the setup…
Eddie Flynn is a defense attorney with a struggling law practice he and his partner Jack Halloran are trying to keep afloat. Eddie’s marriage his also shaky because of the long hours that keep him away from wife Christine and daughter Amy. He takes on a politically unpopular case where he’s representing the wife of a man who was killed by an NYPD detective using an illegal chokehold. It soon becomes clear that it’s also a matter of life or death for him and his client.

the heart of the story…
Did I mention that Eddie is also a former con artist? He doesn’t think like your traditional lawyer and is formidable in the courtroom. Eddie is also street smart, which helps him stay alive and a few steps ahead of those who want the case and him dead, outwitting a host of opponents.

the narration…
It’s my first go round with Adam Sims and I’m thrilled he’s the voice of the series. He’s Eddie, through and through and the storytelling is breakneck speed, just like the character.

the bottom line…
I’ve wanted to start this series forever and now I know what all the fuss is about. This prequel felt like a full length novel and it moves! I’m grateful I listened to the author’s notes as he provides the inspiration for the story, which also reminded me of one of the most disgraceful periods in NYPD history.
