Connor Sparks was recruited by the CIA right as he was graduating from prep school and preparing for college. He’s still close to his friends and part of the group known as The Perfect Gentlemen, especially since they accept his secretiveness about his covert activities. When Lara Armstrong, the blogger responsible for the Capitol Scandals site, threatens to bring down the Zack Hayes presidency with explosive information, Conner goes undercover as her bodyguard to figure out what she has. He didn’t count on falling for Lara and things get complicated. And, there’s another threat that puts them both in serious danger.
I’m very intrigued by the continuing mystery arc of the series and it ramps up significantly in this story. More information is revealed that makes the situation even more complex as “Deep Throat” makes another appearance and the Russian mob continues their pursuit. It’s far from solved or resolved as Lara’s information adds another layer of suspense.
Unfortunately, Connor and Lara’s romance was a fail for me, primarily because so much of it was an outgrowth of his duplicity, something I couldn’t forget as their relationship deepened. It didn’t help either that Connor was so awful to Lara. Fortunately, the suspense was enough to keep me engaged, bolstered by the outstanding narration of Kaleo Griffith. I’m happy I opted to listen to the series as he smoothes out the rough edges I found troubling. There are also a couple of nifty little twists at the end that left me excited about continuing on to the next book. These men are far from perfect but it’s also what sets these stories apart.

Terrific and well-balanced review, Jonetta! I am with you on enjoying the genuine-feeling, complex characters even when they are on the unlikable side. I want my stories to feel authentic. Happy June, my friend! ♥️

Thanks, Marialyce💜 It’s funny…we’re reading the series as a group and none of us liked the romance but we are having a robust discussion about the suspense element.
