Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Wishful Endings, to spotlight and discuss the books we’re excited about that we have yet to read. Generally they’re books that have yet to be released. It’s based on Waiting on Wednesday that was hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine.
Believe it or not, my most favorite book series holding the #1 spot is In Death by J. D. Robb, Nora Roberts’ pseudonym. I don’t reread as a rule but reread this series when there were 35 books already released. It’s one of the few I won’t listen to on audio because I created my own voices for the characters before I discovered audiobooks and they sound nothing like the (fabulous) narrator’s depictions. This is #57 and the series is still fresh!
Description
A retired colleague’s suspicious death puts Lt. Eve Dallas on the case in Payback in Death, the electrifying new novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author J.D. Robb.Lt. Eve Dallas is just home from a long overdue vacation when she responds to a call of an unattended death. The victim is Martin Greenleaf, retired Internal Affairs Captain. At first glance, the scene appears to be suicide, but the closer Eve examines the body, the more suspicious she becomes.
An unlocked open window, a loving wife and family, a too-perfect suicide note—Eve’s gut says it’s a homicide. After all, Greenleaf put a lot of dirty cops away during his forty-seven years in Internal Affairs. It could very well be payback—and she will not rest until the case is closed.

yes I’ve had it on hold for months. I also can’t listen to audio for a similar reason. Even when the books are longer it reads quickly because the characters and settings have some familiarity.

I’m hoping I’m first in line on release day since I recommended it months ago before Overdrive “retired” the feature. Oh, how I miss it.

That’s wonderful that this series is still such a great read for you even this many books in. I hope this new one is just as good.

This is one of those series I keep saying to myself that I need to continue every time I see you mention it… But I’ve only read the first book and it was years ago; the amount of books I need to read to catch up is pretty daunting. xD

Ignore the number of books in the series…it’s the journey that’s pure heaven! Best series in terms of character development I’ve ever read. Must read in order and take your time.

Good to know! I already have to many series I want to continue/finish this year, but I’m going to add it to my 2024 list.

Me, too! Right now, they only bought two copies, which is crazy. Waiting for them to add more any day now. The line is awful (I’m at 22 even though I recommended it in February). And here I thought I’d be first😏
