the setup…
Lauren and Kelsey have finally made the move from New York City to their dream home in Hudson Valley. Kelsey is pregnant with their first child and all seems perfect…until it wasn’t. There’s an extremely overbearing and nosy neighbor, a medium and the suspicious death of the previous owner. Oh, dear.
the heart of the story…
As things start feeling creepier and a bit off, Lauren begins snooping into things. There’s a basement, too, that prior to all of this, she hadn’t any interest in exploring. Yes, there’s that, “don’t go down there!” moment, of course.
the narration…
The performance was just okay for me as the narrator’s tone and storytelling style didn’t fit the atmosphere. It’s a personal thing.
the bottom line…
This delivers on the tension and suspense, especially how it ended. Bravo!

Love those creepy stories but sad the narrator just couldn’t pull them off!

It would be a much better experience reading the book. She had a high pitched nasal quality, making her sound too young.

Once in a while I am disappointed with an audiobook performance and wish I could have read the book instead. Too bad that this was the case with this book. Thank you for your honest opinion Jonetta.

Thank you, Jodie💜 She just had the wrong voice for my ears in this story.

You’re making good use of these shorter listens. I don’t seem to listen to any of my originals, or plus or Kindle with audio as often as I might.

I have the entire collection on my phone and listen to them in between my full lengths, especially if I finish one in the am. When they’re an hour, I can do my morning bathing routine and finish one!

It’s a really good short story and you should sample the audio first. She may just work fine for you.

I’ve got this collection on my TBL list as they are available on KU to read and listen. Too bad the narrator didn’t work, Jo. I listened to the sample and it is soooo slow, it’s hard to tell what it would be like when I speed it up to 1.5 which is my usual listening speed. I will have to give it a try. Nice review.

Thank you, Carla💜 I listen at 1.25 normally. The pace didn’t bother me but the narrator’s voice just didn’t match the genre for me.
