the setup…
Sarah and Adam Morgan have been married for ten years. She’s a high powered criminal defense attorney and is a named partner at her law firm. Adam is a published author who hasn’t matched his first success in over four years. On the surface, he is proud of Sarah’s achievements; underneath that veneer is a seething resentment. And, he’s been having a secret affair with Kelly Summers at their cabin retreat he uses for “writing.” When her brutalized body is discovered there hours after he left, Adam is arrested and charged with Kelly’s murder. Guess who is representing him.

the heart of the story…
Thankfully we get both Sarah’s and Adam’s points of view because this is a doozy of a situation. It’s somewhat clear Adam didn’t kill Kelly but things seemed to have been set up to make it look like he did. Sarah worked hard on his behalf despite him doing boneheaded things to complicate matters. She also vacillated between forgiving him and wringing his cheating neck.

the narration…
I listened to the original audio edition narrated by Teri Schnaubelt and Neil Hellegers as she’s one of my favorites. Both delivered excellent performances.

the bottom line…
I smelled a few rats but not the head-snapping twist at the end. When I saw a sequel was being released, I hurried to listen this one and it paid off. Did not see it coming but should have. It’s not a perfect story as there were a couple of plot holes and belief suspensions. But, I was hooked from the beginning and thoroughly entertained. Bring on the next book!
