2024 BookLights

Welcome to My 2024 BookLights!

I had a great reading year and didn’t want to limit my summary of it to a specific number of books so I’ve arranged them into categories:

  • New to Me Authors I Waited Too Long to Read
  • Debut Authors Who Need to Write More Books
  • Knocked My Ears Off Performances
  • Seriously Series
  • Non Fiction Gems
  • Five Star Beauties

When I reflected on my favorites, they all fit nicely into at least one of these categories.

New to Me Authors I Waited Too Long to Read

I became an instant fan after reading these authors for the first time and am now exploring their backlists.

Hannah Richell – The Search Party

Matt Brolly – The Alliance

Adam Mitzner – The Brothers Kenney

Sarah Morgenthaler – The Christmas You Found Me

Abby Jimenez – Part of Your World

Sophie Cousens – Is She Really Going Out With Him?

Debut Authors Who Need to Write More Books

I read quite a few books by first-time authors last year, taking a chance that paid off nicely with these debuts. Two have already released second books and I loved them as well.

Shannon Bowring – The Road to Dalton

Ashley Elston – First Lie Wins

Amy Pease – Northwoods

Emma Grey – The Last Love Note

Emily Habeck – Shark Heart

Amy Tintera – Listen for the Lie

Alison Espach – The Wedding People

Lawrence Robbins – The President’s Lawyer

Knocked My Ears Off Performances

My love for audiobook listening is well known and I’ve had a great year. But these were particular standouts in that the storytelling was elevated so much that it defined the books.

Know Your Newlywed – Full Cast Narration

Tom Lake – Meryl Streep, Narrator

What the Wife Knew – Helen Laser & Andrew Eiden, Narrators

Everybody is a Liar – Multicast Narration

The Last Party – Amy Bentley, Will Damron, Neil Hellegers & Ellen Quay, Narrators

Worst Case Scenario – Joe Morton, Narrator

New Nigeria County – Full Cast Narration

Seriously Series

I am a series reader at heart and these represent the best in my experience last year.

Mixed Signals – Lovelight Series by B. K. Borison

Beyond Reasonable Doubt – Keera Duggan Series by Robert Dugoni

Lying Beside You – Cyrus Haven Series by Michael Robotham

New Leash on Life – The Dogfather Series by Roxanne St. Claire

Searching for Redemption – Redwood Coast Rescue Series by Tonya Burrows

Non Fiction Gems

I didn’t get a chance to read much in this category but boy were these two exceptional!

The Third Gilmore Girl by Kelly Bishop

Trial by Ambush by Marcia Clark

5 Star Beauties

These aren’t all of my five-star reads in 2024 but they were true standouts.

Frank & Red by Matt Coyne

Mind Games by Nora Roberts

Funny Story by Emily Henry

The Paradise Problem by Christina Lauren

If Something Happens to Me by Alex Finlay

  1. I think Rachel Grant was the author I’d waited to long to read, especially as I then found I’d got most of her books over the years in my unread part of my kindle. I glommed her entire back list.
Yes the In Death series is one of my favourites too

  2. Great highlights, Jo. I read most of your five star reads, but will be checking out the ones I haven’t. I can’t believe that was your first Sarah Morgenthaler book. I hope you have many more in your future.
