Romantic Suspense

Siren Song by Debbie Baldwin @debbiebaldwinbooks @gatekeeperpresspublishing @gatekeeperpress.bsky.social #BishopSecurity #SirenSong

the setup…
Leo (Ren) Jameson is a former Navy SEAL now working for Bishop Security. He’s also a Columbia professor and for months has been drawn to one of his students, Sofria Kirk who is a CIA analyst. When she’s reassigned to another country, Ren fears that will be the end for them…that is until he discovers she’s not the woman he thought he knew. Sofria is actually Stella Keen, a government agent who was hired to spy on him and the groundbreaking secret drone project he’s worked on for years. Ren’s determination to get answers ends up putting them both at risk.

the heart of the story…
This was as much Stella’s story as it was Ren’s as her backstory was just as dysfunctional as his. She’s been groomed as an agent since she was a teen and is good at what she does. Despite that, she fell for her target (Ren) as hard as he did for her. When Ren’s research partner was murdered, they eventually realize they’re both in danger, particularly her as the secret agency she’s worked for years is now trying to silence her. These two are emotional neophytes and struggle to find footing with their feelings for each other while Ren tries to get past her betrayal. Meanwhile, they are trying to elude a serious assassin.

the bottom line…
I’ve loved this series and hate to see it end and this was a spectacular finish. We finally get to see the mild-mannered Ren in action with someone who is a worthy equal. I was fascinated by Stella and together they made a great team, even as it took some time for both of them to reach that conclusion. There was danger lurking at every juncture from an unknown enemy, which kept the tension high. The coastal Maine setting where they landed added to the romantic aspects. I enjoyed this final installment and appreciated the lovely epilogue that put a bow on it.
