Alice Lockwood is mourning the recent death of her husband Grant. But she’s starting to see his face everywhere. She also just took a pregnancy test and it came back positive. Then a woman shows up at her front door, claiming to be the “other” woman Grant has spent years with and the father of her children. And the hits just keep on coming.
the heart of the story…
I went into this blind, forgetting it was a “satirical” thriller. Imagine taking the story seriously and slowly realizing the joke is on me. Soon I was chucking and when I got to the ending, I was laughing out loud.
the narration…
Marin Ireland is another favorite and she showed me a different side, playing it straight and displaying some serious comedic chops. She was fabulous.
the bottom line…
McFadden pokes fun at herself and the genre she dominates. This is only my second story by the author and she’s sufficiently primed me for diving into one of her psychological thrillers. This was a lot of fun and thanks for a very clever tale and the laughs.
