My Sister’s Daughter by Liv Constantine @livconstantine2 @livconstantine.bsky.social @suzanneefreeman @podiumentertainment #BookSky #MySistersDaughter

the setup…

Ashley Bowers is married to Elliott and they have two children, twelve-year old Luna and four-year old Maddox. Their peaceful family life is interrupted when she gets a call that her estranged younger sister Courtney has died in an accident. Her thirteen-year old daughter Serena, who she’s never met, must come live with Ashley as her father died earlier and she has no one else. Things get off to a rough start right away as tensions between Luna and Serena begin and continue to escalate. Is Serena as troubled as her mother was? Or is Luna the one setting up her cousin? One of them seems capable of disturbing behavior.

the heart of the story…
I went back and forth about Luna and Serena and both seemed to be skilled little actresses. Ashley did all the right things to try and unearth the truth and I was just as perplexed as she was.

the narration…
Suzanne Elise Freeman deftly captured Ashley’s angst while maintaining her rationality. She’s an excellent storyteller, too. Loved her performance.

the bottom line…
For a short story, this had a lot of character and background depth. I was so absorbed in the mystery I forgot to expect a twist and was caught flat footed! Another clever story by this talented duo. It’s also now a Lifetime movie.
