the setup…
A woman walks into a bar…heard that one? A guardian angel named Gabriel, a Grim Reaper who wants to save souls and an undead dog called Tatertot. No, I guarantee this is something new. Darcy Moore is a reluctant Reaper and is dreading her new assignment in Annapolis. Secretly she’s decided to try and save him without her “boss” finding out. Gabriel Aetos is a Guardian Angel and runs the dive bar that Darcy walks into. He’s immediately attracted until he senses who and what she really is and wants her gone. But as their paths continue to cross, he realizes her heart and decides to help her true purpose…until boss Gideon comes looking for his rogue Reaper.
the heart of the story…
I loved the passion of both Darcy and Gabriel as they struggled with their feelings about each other. He’s been around for thousands of years and she never had a chance to experience much in life before her death. Helping her with an unconventional “bucket list” was fun and the world building was extremely creative.
the narration…
It’s a duet narration (my favorite) that was executed flawlessly. Stephen Dexter had the sexy voice that made for a perfect Gabriel and Angelina Rocca’s dusky, sensuous tone fit Darcy nicely. Obviously I loved their performances.
the bottom line…
Gabriel and Darcy were wonderfully designed and well developed characters that engaged me almost instantly. Their world beyond was equally inventive and imaginative, making for a wonderful listening experience. The romance was steamy but took its time to evolve quite naturally and I had no idea how their situations could be resolved. Enemies to lovers, star crossed lovers and polar opposites to the extreme…elements that made this story delightful.
