I love it when a novella does its job in setting up and introducing the continuing story arc for a series and that’s just what happened here. Dr. Rowan DuPont is a profiler with the Nashville Metro Police Department and she’s assigned to work with four detectives to track down a serial killer. It doesn’t take long before it’s clear that she’s the ultimate target as the victims to date all bear a remarkable resemblance to her in every way.
I’ll admit I was able to quickly pinpoint the suspect (I’ve read way too many of these things) but what set this apart is the pace in which the characters were developed and the story moved. And, there were some unexpected outcomes that weren’t at all predictable.
Rowan is indeed the daughter of an undertaker and that presents some very interesting angles. This was an engaging story and I’m very anxious to continue, particularly as there are so many things left to explore, at least out of my imagination. I’ve already hatched a few conspiracy theories that I want to see through! This was delicious.

This does sound like a unique read, Jonetta! It reminds me of The Undertaker’s Assistant I read recently, just because of the occupation. It sounds like you have a new series to explore. Terrific review! ♥️

I love reading crime fiction book reviews… but unfortunately I can’t read the books. They make me paranoid 😂 BUT this book does sound so good! It might be worth it haha. Great review! You’ve described the books good points really well! I’m intrigued 💙 Jen

Thanks, Jen💜 This is a short one and you’ll know from it whether it’s your cuppa. I get what you mean about the paranoia…sometimes I get so anxious I can barely keep reading.

I think you’re right that a short one is probably a good way to find out. You know what? I’m gonna brave it and give this a try (during full daylight 😂). That way I can always read something sappy afterward if needed!

Another great review and another series to explore. Can’t say I would be thrilled about being an undertaker’s daughter though!

Great review, Jonetta! The novella sounds intriguing. Always good to get the background story, although usually these are written as a prequel. Would love to find out if your theories turn out to be similar to the author’s vision 🤗
