The Highlander’s Forbidden Mistress by Anna Campbell

The Highlander’s Forbidden Mistress

Widow Selina Martin is engaged to a boorish but wealthy businessman who she’s marrying to provide for her son. With two weeks to go before the wedding, they attend a party hosted by a well connected patron. In attendance is Brock Drummond, the Earl of Bruard, a notorious ladies man and the object of Selina’s dreams for quite some time. Selina has an unexpected encounter with him during the party and gives in to her fantasies by agreeing to spend the next week with him at his private hunting lodge while her fiancé is away. It’s a last gift to herself as she enters into yet another loveless, unfulfilling marriage.

If this sounds like an erotic indulgence it’s because it is! Selina just wanted to experience some level of sexual satisfaction in her life before she settled into what she was sure would be an awful physical relationship with her future husband. For his part, Brock was more than captivated by Selina as she seemed immune to his charms and made it clear what the week was and wasn’t about. For the first time in his adult life, he was the pursuer, trying to win over the affections of a woman.

Be forewarned that the story is explicit and consistent with the foundation of the story. Selina gets the fulfillment she sought and Brock was masterful in his efforts. I liked them both, he being honest with himself and Selina in ways he’d never been, she shedding all her vulnerabilities and being frank and honest. It’s an erotic love story that didn’t start out that way but developed over this extraordinary week. While I was a little “judgy” of Selina at first (after all she is engaged to another man), I was eventually swayed to her point of view and believed in her cause. It’s a lovely story with lots of steamy encounters.
