Best of 2023 – Top 12 Series

If you’re a regular follower, you know by now I LOVE series reading! I again participated in many series group reads on Goodreads. It’s been another wonderful year for my series reading as so many were absolute wins. Here’s my list of those I started, continued or finished in 2023 (in no particular order).


1. Tracy Crosswhite by Robert Dugoni 

I’m all caught up in this series now and have to wait for new releases. This year’s didn’t disappoint, continuing to be one of my most favorite. Dugoni says he’ll keep writing them until we tell him to stop. Mums the word!


2. Will Trent by Karin Slaughter

I don’t think I’ll ever tire of this series and this year’s release explored an aspect of Sara Linton’s past I never imagined would be explained. I’m extremely loyal to the books when they are adapted for screen and had low expectations for the TV series. Wow…was I ever surprised when screen Will Trent nailed the book version.


3. Orphan X  by Gregg Hurwitz 

This series was one of my best surprises. It had languished on my shelf until it was selected as a group read in one of my Goodreads groups. James Bond has nothing on Evan Smoak.

 


4. Bree Taggert by Melinda Leigh

This is one of those series that I love for the character development just as much as the mysteries. It’s another one I hope has a long life.

 


5. The Lost Bride Trilogy  by Nora Roberts

It’s the first book in a brand new series that had me gobsmacked at the end. I loved the story and, even more importantly, where it seems to be going.

 


6. Bromance Book Club by Lyssa Kay Adams

Don’t you love it when a series lives up to your expectations? The concept of a romance book club for men was highly appealing and the stories were wonderful.

 


7. Quinn & Costa by Allison Brennan

I didn’t know what to expect when this series was introduced but it became an auto read after the first book. It also healed the wounds caused by the Lucy Kincaid hiatus.

 


8. Hawthorne & Horowitz by Anthony Horowitz

Why did it take me so long to start this series? I am “seriously” hooked and will get caught up this year. The relationship between the detective and the writer is unique and prickly…just the way I like it.


9. The Appeal  by Janice Hallett

Who knew this was coming? It was absolutely wonderful to be back in this world with this little gift of a novella! I hope it’s a sign of more to come.


10. DI Kim Stone by Angela Marsons 

Poor Angela. No sooner than she releases a book in this series, we are harassing her for the next one. Another series where the character development is equally appealing as the mysteries, though there’s a teeny edge to the thrills.

 


11. In Death by J. D. Robb

This series is my #1 favorite, 58 books and still counting, still fresh. It’s one of the best procedurals out there and the character development just adds even more flavor.

 

 


12. Bishop Security by Debbie Baldwin

I really hope this romantic suspense series by a wonderfully talented indie writer can get some traction. Love the concept, the mysteries and the characters. I won’t even accept the books for review because I prefer paying for them.

  1. I’m with you on Allison Brennan and Nora Roberts/JD Robb.
    I would include the Murderbot series by Martha Wells, The Badari Warriors books by Veronica Scott, Cold Justice series by Toni Anderson, Dark Carpathians by Christine Feehan which after a few years of mediocrity has now much improved again, and the Hostile Operations series by Lynn Raye Harris.

  5. I love some of these – are my total favorites. Dugoni, Brennan, Slaughter, Hurwitz, Leigh and Robb. I’ve read the Bromance guys too. I would add William Kent Krueger, CS Harris, Andrea Penrose, Allen Eskens to my favorites here. And I love Murderbot also!

  7. I’ve read books from quite a few of these. I know that drives you crazy ☺️. Once upon a time, binging series was very common for me but that was before NetGalley. All of these are or look very good!

    1. Yeah, drives me a little nutty😏 But more so when a reviewer knocks the rating because they felt like something was “missing.” You seem to enjoy them no matter, so…💜 (still wish you’d read the first three In Death books🤣). It actually was NetGalley that started my bingeing.
