the setup…
Beckett Porter, the co-owner and farm operations manager for Lovelight Farms, is at a business conference in Maine when he stops in a bar that first night and encounters a beautiful woman sitting alone. Atypical of his normal behavior, he approaches her, signaling his interest. Soon they spent the next two nights together until he woke that final morning and she was gone. Three months later, he’s stunned to find her at Lovelight Farms, the global social media influencer Evelyn St. James who his partner invited there to participate in her contest. Evelyn is just as rattled as Beckett and disappears again soon after. Now, it’s months later and Evelyn is discontented with her life, trying to connect to what she really wants to do in life. She decides to return to Lovelight Farms in Inglewild, the last place she remembers being happy.
the heart of the story…
Neither Beckett or Evelyn had ever experienced anything like that weekend in Maine. He normally struggles with social interactions and finds the world a noisy place. She isn’t used to going to bed with strange men she meets in a bar. But both couldn’t forget that night. Her return to Lovelight Farms rattled Beckett but Evelyn was willing to explore their connection, one she couldn’t forget. I enjoyed how the town got engaged in trying to push them together, a nosiness and meddling that comes with small towns. It was also enlightening to learn that Beckett wasn’t shy and had real problems and anxieties related to social interactions. But he comes across as distant and standoffish. Despite that, Evelyn never gives up on them and he soon gives in.
the narration…
I enjoyed the narration for Evelyn as she fully embraced her character. I liked the narration for Beckett but it came across as a bit stilted. I didn’t “feel” the emotions of his character.
the bottom line…
I liked Beckett and Evelyn’s story but it didn’t have the magic of the first book. Perhaps it was because I was looking for more romance and relating. Their relationship began with lust and continued when Evelyn returned to Lovelight Farms. While the sensuality was off the charts, it seemed to define every interaction. I liked the story, particularly the charm of the town and the offbeat characters, as well as Beckett and Evelyn. I just wanted more in the growth of their relationship.

Thanks, Nicki💜 It’s still a good story and I seem to be in the minority on this one, at least on Goodreads.

Good review, Jo! I get so frustrated when this happens, sitting and hoping it will get better. For me it’s like what did I just read. I’m sorry to hear this happened for you. Have a wonderful day, Jo ☕📚🪱🥶☃️💙

Thank you, Jody💜 I’m no prude and even I got weary of all the steamy scenes. Still committed to the series as there’s still a lot to love about it.

yes I read the first and might be interested in the third one. For some reason this one did not appeal to me.

I had high hopes for it because I was intrigued by Beckett. Their relationship never really developed well.

Wonderful review Jonetta! I have also experienced an audiobook where I liked the female narrator but not the male one. I remember hoping that she would be the one narrating the next chapter!

Thanks, Jodie💜 Yes! The same happened for me. I kept drifting when he was narrating because it was fairly monotone.

The Lovelight series is very popular. I started reading book 1 early last year but had to put it down for another book and never went back. Perhaps if I get back to it – I’ll skip over this one 🤭. So sorry it disappointed!

Thanks, Tessa💜 You’ll love the first book but there’s wa-a-ay too much steam here for your tastes (I think!).

Fab review! That’s such a shame that some of the magic of the first book is missing! I loved the first book and I have been planning to read this one, but the lack of relationship growth and more steamy scenes make me wonder now…

Thanks, Yvo💜 I bumped this up because I needed a story with the magic of that first book. It’s not a bad story, just not as captivating. I listened to it so I couldn’t skim through all those steamy scenes. You’d be able to manage through that. Still recommend it but be prepared to “fast forward”…a lot!

Great review, Jo. I totally agree, that while I enjoyed this one, the first was my favourite. I still need to read or listen to the third one.
