The Paradise Problem by Christina Lauren @ChristinaLauren @PattiMurin #JonRoot @SimonAudio

the setup…
We meet Anna Green and Liam (West) Weston on the day they bid each other goodbye following graduation from UCLA. See, they “married” each other two years before simply to qualify for cheap student family housing. Anna also believed she signed divorce papers. It’s now three years later, Anna’s seriously down on her luck professionally and cash strapped. Enter Stanford professor Liam Weston who desperately needs her help with his dysfunctional family. He needs her to accompany him to a family event in Singapore…as his wife. Unknown to her? They’re still married (long story) but he needs her to fake a deep, committed relationship in order to keep his trust fund. What could go wrong with his pink-haired, foul-mouthed Anna by his side in the midst of one-percent vipers?

the heart of the story…
I love a good fake-dating romcom but this? It should be used as the template for how to create any storyline in this sub genre. It’s über funny, sensual, romantic, heartbreaking and has some exceptionally bad behaving relatives out to thwart Anna and West. They couldn’t be more opposite in natures but they share one great quality…a sense of decency. Their lives are testaments to putting others before their own needs.

the narration…
Whoever decided to pair Murin and Root knew what they were doing. She was perfect as Anna and he wore West like a glove. Even more, they nailed all the other important secondary characters and did fantastic storytelling.

the bottom line…
I knew this would be good because I seem to love this writing team’s style. But I was unprepared to be swallowed up by the story, the characters and the drama. Trust me…this deserves all levels of hype. And if you like audiobooks, don’t think twice about any other format.

  1. Excellent review, Jo. I am on a not so short queue at the library for this audiobook. I may breakdown and use a credit for it. I really like the sound of a real marriage/fake dating trope. Sounds like it will be a romp.
