the setup…
Viola Bowen leads a team of video game designers and they are being considered for the ultimate in opportunities. A new game is planned for development based on her most favorite book series. However, her main competitor is Jesse Andrews, someone who has the skills and she admires professionally…and has crushed on from afar. But years ago, he made it abundantly clear he wanted nothing to do with her. Now they’re stuck together at a remote team building retreat
the heart of the story…
Even I was perplexed by Jesse’s attitude. Nothing about their initial encounter gave any clues. I was also leery about this being centered around gaming but the worry was needless. It was interesting, the secondary characters quirky and funny, and the heat between Viola and Jesse quite romantic.
the narration…
My first outing with Kelsey Navarro Foster and I have a new favorite narrator! Loved her storytelling skills and voice tone. She made this fun.
the bottom line…
It’s only four hours but this has the heft of a much longer story. Who knew I’d love the gaming part of the plot as much as the romance and everything else. Communications conflicts normally annoy me but not this one. I had the best of times with Viola & Jesse.

Nice review, Jo. I think I might check this one out. I’m not a gamer at all, so was worried, but after reading your review, I will head over to audible.

Nice review! A few people in my book club mentioned this and said it was good, but not their favorite of Hazelwood’s. I’m curious about it…I don’t pay for Spotify, so I guess I’ll have to see if I can listen to it with ads or something (probably not).

Oh, that’s a good idea! I just presumed I could only find it on Spotify since I assumed it was exclusive to the platform. Thanks for the tip!
