Falling for the Forward by Brenda Rothert @brendarothert @hambright_pr #FallingForTheForward

the setup…
Suki Brennan is working two jobs just to barely stay afloat. She unwisely invested in her dirtbag ex-boyfriend’s new venture by co-signing on the loans. Now he’s left the country and literally left her holding the financial bags. One of those jobs is as a nanny to the three young nieces of grumpy pro hockey player Carter Stanton. He became their guardian with the recent sudden death of his older sister and is struggling in his fatherhood role. They love Suki and she’s wonderful with them. So, when their deadbeat father threatens the custody arrangement, Carter makes Suki an offer to marry him (and make it look real) to ensure he keeps his nieces.

the heart of the story…
I knew I’d like this story but was wonderfully surprised to end up loving it! You’d think it might have been a bit predictable but when you add in a micro pig named Darling as a pet, three grief stricken little girls and Suki’s fabulous best friends, all bets are off on that front. I liked Suki, a lot, despite her bad judgment with men. Her affection for the girls is genuine and she has experience with the loss of a parent. Despite Carter’s broody behavior, his heart was always in the right space and was open to being better.

the bottom line…
This was such a good time and the real romance that developed between Suki and Carter was natural and paced perfectly. Darling the pig was a scene stealer of course and there were heartwarming moments involving the girls who all experienced their grief differently. It’s well written and I’m definitely in for the rest of the series.

  1. I’ve seen this one around and have been waffling, but after reading your wonderful review, it is now on the shelf. I hope my library gets this one. I love that they have a micro-pig for a pet, so cute.
