the setup…
Four years ago, Cricket Dover was celebrating on Jaco Beach in Costa Rica when Griffin Greene walked up to her and that was it. They had a steamy one night stand, never exchanging names but he left behind his beloved cowboy hat…and something else. Move forward to present day and who walks onto the Dover Armadillo’s baseball field where Cricket is the operations manager…the man from Costa Rica. He’s a former professional baseball player, there to participate as a volunteer player for her fundraiser. Does he recognize her and she him? And, he’s one of those Greenes from Peachtree Pass, her family’s rival. How does she tell her son Jake (and him) that Daddy’s come home?

the heart of the story…
The secret about Cricket’s son could have become a tiresome, drawn out communications drama and thank goodness this isn’t that story. Her dilemma was all about timing, not keeping the secret. She wanted to protect her son and her custody before introducing Griffin into the picture. There was so much depth here as both reacquainted themselves with each other and found that one night of passion wasn’t a fluke.

the narration…
Pairing Tor Thom and Savannah Peachwood felt like kismet as they both have gorgeous voice tones and inhabited their characters so nicely. I enjoyed their storytelling.

the bottom line…
I have a soft spot for these type stories, especially when they are well crafted. I really liked Cricket and Griffin, individually and as a couple. The extended Greene family adds even more layers to the story as these two navigated their way to a relationship born from one night and the revelation about three-year old Jake. Yes, a little sappy but just what I was hoping to experience without a lot of drama and lots of family love.
