the setup…
JoJo Burton has a history of not sticking with relationships but now she’s made it to the altar…almost. Before she reaches it, JoJo was already looking for a way out. In walks Cooper Watts, her best friend since she was ten, who suddenly moved to London and ghosted her. Of course he saves the day by showing her the way out. Jump forward six weeks and JoJo is off to her sister’s destination wedding on a cruise ship. It’s also going to be her chance to deal with her failure to launch in relationships and the focus is on Finn. He’s another neighborhood friend from childhood and her first crush who also was her first kiss. Again, Cooper shows up and decides to be her wingman for the project. Right.
the heart of the story…
Poor JoJo. She’s a genius at math and rather clueless about everything else, including the man right before her eyes. I loved Cooper who was the best “friend” a girl could have. There are lots of zany moments and her family brought the fun. Their communication issues annoyed me, especially those that could be resolved with a sentence but I couldn’t help being enamored of these two.
the narration…
Patti Murin is such a pro. She captured JoJo and Cooper so perfectly and kept the storytelling lively.
the bottom line…
I had a good time with JoJo and Cooper’s journey to end up where they started. The cruise ship setting with its port stops set up so many opportunities for the crazy. It helped that I adored these two, which made it easier to wait for them to meet me at the finish line. If not for all those senseless non communication moments, this might have been my most favorite Center story.
