the setup…
Luc O’Donnell’s life is a bit of a mess. He’s a fundraiser for an obscure conservative London charity and now it’s in jeopardy because of the latest sketchy photo of him that showed up in the tabloids. Luc is the 28-year old son of rock stars but it’s his famous father Jon Fleming’s reputation that gets automatically attached to him, never mind it’s untrue and he’s never met the man. He needs something fast to rehabilitate his public image so when it’s suggested he find a “normal” and upstanding boyfriend, his friends recommend Oliver Blackwood, a barrister from a family with good social standing. He and Luc agree to be each other’s fake boyfriends because, as it turns out, Oliver has reason to have one, too. Problem is, aside from them being gay and single, they have so little in common.
the heart of the story…
It didn’t take long for me to adore Luc and want the best for this misunderstood man. He has the best heart and community of friends who desperately want him to be happy (they’re a bit zany in their own right). Luc’s work colleagues are outrageously funny without even trying. But it’s the relationship between him and Oliver that surprised me the most. Opposites sometimes do attract and can see the best qualities in each other.
the narration…
I enjoyed Joe Jameson’s performance, especially his portrayals of Luc and his French-Irish mother. He nailed them and their lovely relationship.
the bottom line…
I like fake dating stories and this turned out to be one of the best. It has everything…laugh out loud humor, heartache, conflict and of course romance. Wish I hadn’t waited so long to listen to it but now I can jump right into the next book.
