Husband Material by Alexis Hall @quicunquevolt @quicunquevolt.bsky.social @joejamesonvo @dreamscape_media @dreamscape-media.bsky.social #LondonCalling #HusbandMaterial

the setup…

It’s been two years and the gang’s all back, this time for the occasion of Bridget and Tom’s wedding. She’s having her best friend Luc be her maid of honor. He and Oliver are still very much together despite the odds. Seems like wedding bells are continuing to ring as Luc’s work colleague Alex is getting married, too. Not to be outdone, Luc spontaneously proposes to Oliver. Will they get their happily ever after?

the heart of the story…
There are so many laugh out loud moments and I loved seeing the push-pull between Luc and Oliver, who has infinite patience. What’s never in doubt is their unwavering devotion to each other, even when things feel precarious. Luc’s friend network is equally committed to him and never hold back in giving it to him straight.

the narration…
Joe Jameson inhabits Luc so naturally and I loved his performance. His voice for Oliver and other key secondary characters are distinctive and perfect.

the bottom line…
I enjoyed the story and appreciated seeing Luc and Oliver grapple with the issues that couples face as their relationship matures. There are some serious challenges this time, including their identity differences, along with heartbreaking moments. I’m not sure how I feel about the ending but it seemed authentic. Thank goodness I’ve got the next book in the queue.
