the setup…
Allie Lake, an ecology researcher, arrives home to England from Bermuda when she discovers she has the wrong phone. She figures out it was accidentally swapped with Milo Ford who was on the plane. He’s an actor currently filming in Romania and can’t return for 21 days to do the swap. They work out a plan to share messages and files and talk, text and do Zoom calls…daily. Neither planned on falling for the other and by the time of their scheduled rendezvous, feelings are strong. The day of, though, their private messages to each other are leaked, blowing up their worlds and the relationship, both believing the other orchestrated the mess. Fast forward two years and Allie is in the Norwegian arctic at a research site. Who should show up to film the project but Milo, both stunned at the coincidence…uh, oh.

the heart of the story…
In one month’s time Allie and Milo went from strangers to friends, friends to lovers and then to arch enemies. It’s a tough road to enemies to lovers but despite the loss of trust, both are still hurting and have strong feelings for each other. I loved their journey to friends and had high hopes for the relationship. I wasn’t crazy about the miscommunication aspect but it didn’t last long.

the narration…
Nikolas Salmon & Rebecca Norfolk were fabulous! Both captured the essences of their characters and were wonderful storytellers.

the bottom line…
I loved this story despite that interim period of miscommunication because the first and last parts more than compensated for it and it wasn’t something that could be easily resolved. Have patience because the payoff is worth it. And, the Arctic puffins and little auks connections was just precious.
