the setup…
It’s the late 1980s and Michelle Carver is back home in Los Angeles for the summer from Juilliard. She’s the daughter of a wealthy real estate magnate and has sneaked away from her controlling parents to avoid another suffocating event. When she’s forced to stop for gas, she mistakes Scott McKallister for an attendant and he toys with her. He’s actually the frontman for a local heavy metal band with a cult-like neighborhood following, struggling to make a living. Sparks fly and she shows up to his gig the next night. This is the beginning of what will become the origin story for the unlikely romance between the socialite and the “unsuitable” young man who captured her heart, and she his

the heart of the story…
I’m only one book into the series but was so excited to get the backstory of the McKallister family. Michelle and Scott may have had all odds against them, including their age (nineteen), disparate upbringings and financial divides. But this wasn’t just chemistry and despite the incredible force that was her family, their devotion to each other was unbreakable. It’s raw, honest, heartbreaking and inspiring.

the bottom line…
Another story I didn’t know I wanted and needed! These two weathered so many obstacles just to be with each other, including Michelle’s inability to stand up to her formidable family and Scott’s financial constraints. It spans more than two decades and I felt every emotion as they managed through highs, extreme lows and everything in between, testing their relationship with each other and their children. Best prequel ever and I’m ready to jump back into the series.
