the bottom line…
I got swept up in this story from the onset and always in the background was the question of why she was abducted. Riley’s situation was bad enough but that element created most of the suspense and tension. I love when a short story can deliver the goods like this did.

There was just something about the cadence of her voice that felt off, and the result was an excessively slow and very haltered narration that annoyed me enormously. It improved slightly when I increased the speed to 1.5x, but I could still hear the unnatural pauses and it really put me off the story. I know this is a personal pet peeve though, and I’m glad it wasn’t an issue for you.
