It wasn’t until Gabrielle (Gabby) Donaldson’s mother Alice was on her deathbed that she learned that her grandmother Rosemary was alive. The two had been estranged since Gabby was a baby and now she’s determined to fulfill on the promise she made to Alice…to deliver her final letter to Rosemary. Gabby leaves her home in Indiana and rents a cabin in the North Carolina Blue Ridge Mountains near Gibson. The owner is Mason Morrison, a single father , newspaper journalist and part time college professor. But finding Rosemary turns out to be more difficult than planned and Gabby extends her stay. Mason agrees to help her and, in return, she allows him to write an anonymous human interest story about her quest. What begins as a brief stopover turns into a longer stay and the beginning of an unintended romance.
the heart of the story…
While Gabby and Mason couldn’t be more opposite, they’re a great fit and share a common history of grief and loss. Both are wary of relationships but slowly build a friendship based on trust and affection that I found believable. The journey to find Rosemary was equally fascinating, providing another layer to the story. Mason’s precocious daughter Peyton and his family’s embrace of Gabby felt natural.

I really liked Kim Churchill’s voice tone and her storytelling skills are exceptional. I enjoyed her performance.
the bottom line…
This was a sweet romance between two people who weren’t looking for love nor thought they deserved it. The slow burn was ideal in the circumstances and I enjoyed how it took its time. Though it was sometime difficult to discern who was delivering the dialogue as the shifts weren’t distinguished, overall I was engaged in the romance and the search to find Rosemary.
