FBI Agent Lucy Kincaid and her fiancé Sean Rogan are two weeks away from their wedding and they both have a lot going on leading up to the big day. Sean is out of town, secretly meeting with son Jesse to encourage him to accept his witness protection situation. Lucy is working with her team to locate the stolen babies uncovered in their last investigation when Sean’s sister Eden suddenly shows up on her doorstep, stating that she’s there for the wedding. Against her better judgment, Lucy leaves her alone but when Noah Armstrong learns she’s there, he knows something’s not quite right and decides to investigate on his own. His suspicions are on target as Eden and twin brother Liam are definitely on a secret mission that ultimately has disastrous consequences.
Let me warn you that it doesn’t take long before this story shifts into the highest gear and you will not be able to put the book down. I finished it in one day because it was nonstop madness created by the mysterious Liam and Eden, who I’d wondered about since the Rogans were first introduced. They’d been ousted from the family business six years ago but an explanation had never been served up. Not only is the reason revealed, other revelations surface that I never would have imagined (I’m looking at you, Noah). These twin siblings are nothing like the brothers we’ve come to know. The lengths they will go to and the risks they take with others’ fates will shock you. When they place Lucy in serious danger, I knew we were dealing with something different.
I listened almost nonstop and the narrator delivered an outstanding performance for this train wreck duo. She managed a host of characters, making me feel as if there were multiple people narrating and adding to the suspense and sense of imminent danger. It’s well crafted, providing even more insights into the Rogan family and moves at a rapid pace. The ending is emotional, exciting, nerve wracking and whatever other superlative you can imagine. I’m still reeling from what happened but satisfied with the outcome. This was a good one.
