the setup…
Molly Kinsella and Andrew Fitzpatrick are friends who only see each other once a year when they both travel from Chicago back to their native homeland in Ireland for Christmas. Her family lives in Dublin and his in Cork and they first met ten years ago when he was dating her awful friend who broke up with him while she was sitting next to him on their first flight together (a complete coincidence). This yearly trek has become sort of a tradition but now, ten years later, a sudden snowstorm grounds their flight and threatens to wreck their plans. It doesn’t bother Molly that much but for Andrew, being home for Christmas means everything so she’ll do whatever it takes to get them home. What follows is a zany flight plan that has them seeing each other outside of the friend zone for the first time.
the heart of the story…
Molly is a lawyer and Andrew is a photographer and their lifestyles couldn’t be more opposite. But, their friendship is unique and they have the most relaxed and open relationship. They share everything without filter and I loved how they connected. I had a feeling that they’d just never explored the possibility of something more because what they have in their friendship was so precious. The path from Chicago to Ireland was insane, taking them to Argentina, France, London and Wales, using planes, trains, ferries and cabs. You can’t help but become closer in situations like this and I enjoyed seeing their relationship evolve in such a natural way. It didn’t hurt that I really liked both of them.
the narration…
I enjoyed the narrator who told the story wonderfully and handled a host of accents along the way. She delivered a solid performance.
the bottom line…
I like a good friends-to-lovers story and this is one of the better ones. The travel schedule offered an unusual approach to not only bringing Molly and Andrew closer together in a way they would never have done for themselves but offering a fun, interesting backdrop to do so. This was a delightful story that lived up to the hype.

I don’t usually care for the pace of friends to lovers romcoms but this sounds like a good one. It seems with all that traveling, the pace would stay pretty quick. Excellent review!

Thank you, Tessa💜 You are absolutely right about the pace, too. And, there was no game playing or misdirects!

I read it after Christmas as well last year, so you are not alone. It would have been a perfect story to get in the Holiday spirit!
