Reyna Bishop, along with her mother, operates Bishop’s Auto Care & Bakery, she the auto care and her Mom the bakery. She’s hearing her biological clock ticking away and facing her truths about wanting to have a child. So, after her last potential relationship fizzles most spectacularly, she decides to pursue finding a donor for IVF, which turned out to be too expensive. Then enters Brady Nash, the town electrician with whom she had a disastrous one-night fling some time ago. He’s well known for his negative views about getting married and seems the perfect candidate for helping her the natural way and to be willing to walk away. But, unknown to Reyna, Brady considers her the one that got away that he cannot get over and he doesn’t have any plans to ever abandon this relationship if he gets a chance.
I really liked Reyna and Brady but hated how poorly they communicated with each other. Once she became pregnant and her feelings towards him deepened, she became insecure about any reciprocal feelings he may or might not have for her. Brady was crazy about her but hadn’t a clue how to tell her without making himself too vulnerable. It was maddening for two people their age but I certainly could understand their points of view. What I really loved, however, was the special relationship that developed between them because of this baby.
This was a sweet story that included not only Reyna & Brady but their extended family members. It was just what I was hoping for, a romance that slowly develops between two people while they prepare for the birth of their child. It wasn’t always smooth sailing but I admired them both for their commitment to each other and the baby. The drama involving extended family members was unexpected but served to make the story richer and gave it more depth. I really liked this story and the community aspect of this series is what I’d hoped it would be for a small town.

Great review Jo. I enjoy these Harlequin romances, but a lot of the angst in them is caused by poor or lack of communication. Unfortunately, that is true to life in so many situations.
